The book delves into the history of PC Operating Systems (as opposed to those used by mainframes). He writes about his own history with the various OSs (MacOS, Windows, Linux, BeOS) and the pain and trouble they often bring.

- Stephenson is well-versed in technology and is an excellent writer. He raises some very solid points, both for and against the various OSs and their interfaces. It's a good read and is very short (around 150 pages).
