Description

The second expansion to Civ5. As you'd expect, it includes the addition of new wonders, units, scenarios, and civilizations. The primary functional changes include a trade route system (more or less mandatory to earn gold for city states or to purchase units), a reworked social system (with ideologies heavily impacting late game strategy), and changes to diplomatic and cultural victory types (via World Congress and tourism, respectively).

  • I've logged many hours on this iteration, largely addon free. However, that's largely because I really dislike how the game forces you to setup add-ons every time, rather than what the addons bring to the table. While I liked the changes to victory conditions, I generally lock out all types except for domination as it still feels like the most "civ-like" win. As I've gotten better at the game, the widely reported flaws in AI are readily apparent. Quite simply, their tactics are horrible, especially with naval combat. It's still fun to play, but a little frustrating that once you "catch up" to the AI's advantages a victory is all but certain. Here's to hoping Civ6 has an advanced AI.
