Description

As you enter the game, the most obvious difference is the art style; the colors are more vibrant and overall it leans a little more "cartoony" over realism. In regards to gameplay, one of the biggest changes is the introduction of districts for cities. World Wonders and strategic districts (e.g. commercial) now take up actual hexes that you control around your city. In order to build a bank, first you'll need a commercial district (and all buildings related to it will go there). Bonuses can be had depending on the layout (e.g. mountains for an education district). As for the military, they of course have a district as well. In addition, there's the option of forming corp/armies with multiple units. And, finally, you can link support units with military so they move together. Religion, spies, and traders all make a return, albeit in modified form.

  • I've only finished one game on an easy setting and am still getting my feet wet overall, so I'll update this at some point with better feedback. I really like the new graphics (as with anything art, this will not be a universal statement). Perhaps my biggest "YES!" comes with the initial menu when you load the game. You can now (FINALLY!!!!) resume your last game with a couple of clicks. Seriously, that lack of functionality annoyed me the entire civ5 lifespan, and I logged a lot of hours with the game. Even on the easy settings I've found it difficult to get the balance right for building out new cities and getting them online. And since it's in easy mode, that's without having to deal with excessive barbarians or enemy armies. I haven't done any research online, either, so it's possible I'm simply doing something dumb. Or the game is bugged and horrible. Um.
