Description

A science fiction story set in a not-so-distant future America where a techno-elite class of people "live" in the metaverse (a huge 3D virtual world). The United States has split up into various city-states of "franchulates" (fast food meets government). The main character (Hiro Protagonist) is a hacker, in more ways the one... he's a programmer, but is also a master swordsman.

  • It's a pretty cool book. I'm a programmer myself, so I tend to be pretty critical when authors try to use geekspeak. Computer terms are properly used (he even makes some believable ones up) which is crucial to a book like this (only exception was his incorrect definition of BIOS, but at least he admits to it in the acknowledgements at the end of the book). He also does a good job in creating a believable hacker. The mind-set, personality, etc. all seem in-line. The only exception is that the guy is a bad-ass samurai swordsman. I haven't met too many of those. All in all, it's a good story and a quick read (the 400+ pages flew by for me).
