Reviews

  • This is another great addition to the progressive rock world from the masters: Dream Theater. The album on a whole is not quite on par with Metropolis part 2, but it is a great work taken on its own merits. The first CD is a collection of 5 very different songs, the first of which, "Glass Prison", is probably their heaviest tune to date. The second CD is their 45 minute concept song "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" that focusses on mental imbalance caused by different harsh realities of life. It's an impressive combination of styles from the speed-metal sound of "The Test that Stumped Them All," to the lullaby-like "Goodnight Kiss," and the pop-sounding U2-esque sound of "Solitary Shell." It is put together with great care and really never loses steam right through the closing notes of "Losing Time".
