  • Overall this book covers a lot of ground and closes up some major plotlines; unlike other books, it often hops quickly to each, rather than spending many chapters on one such that you forget where you were, story-wise, in the others. Slight drop in points from a couple of issues normally caught by the editor (misspellings, odd sentences, and in one case a half-page paragraph that was nonsensical even after re-reading it three times. Character-wise, Rand is still a work in progress (often annoying, but on the right path), Mat is fun as always, Perrin a bit annoying but finally finishes not-my-favorite-plot, Elayne (normally a character I like) mostly frustrating, and Egwene (a character I usually am annoyed/bored with) has her strongest moments (perhaps aside from being a damane early on). Nice to get some screen time for Loial as well. Sadly this is the last book done by Robert Jordan, the rest by Sanderson based on his notes + team.
